The layer of ozone high up in the stratosphere is our main defence against the Sun’s ultraviolet radiation. But ozone is also a powerful greenhouse gas and ozone at ground level is a hazard to health. The Montreal Protocol to reduce the use of ozone-destroying chemicals world-wide is an inspirational example of how countries can work together to protect our planet.
This printable pack contains three ready-to-use activities suitable for use in school, with youth groups or at home:
– A scene-setting story introducing the effects of ozone in the atmosphere and how we monitor it.
– A practical activity comparing the effects of different sunscreens.
– Exploring real climate data to investigate changes in the Antarctic ozone hole.
